Meal Planning | Summer Recipes

Since we had Cove, I have tried to put more of an emphasis on cooking clean and making sure we have plenty of healthy options at the house. This is especially true now that he is eating what we eat. Dinner used to be very unorganized or last minute, leaving us eating out more and eating food that made us feel like sloths afterwards. While I don’t think that my method is the best one out there, it is super easy and takes less than thirty minutes (for a mom with a little baby – that’s huge).

Return Ticket

“We take photos as a return ticket to a moment otherwise gone.” Our family takes a lot of pictures. Not because we like seeing ourselves plastered all over the place, but because pictures are memories for me. I have never really journaled until more recently, and in a lot of ways, I think it was because photos were a journal for me. I could look at a photo and tell you exactly how I was feeling or what I was going through or experiencing at that exact moment. I find myself frequently going through old photos, reminiscing about those memories…

If I am being honest, we like to make messes

It’s true. We are pretty messy. We have a baby, which is mess enough. Ian also jokes that I am the “messy” kind of cook and my response is always, “the tastiest meals always require messes.” But I’m also type A, so when I make a mess, I always have to clean up after. Something my mom taught me at a young age is that you don’t make memories by keeping things together. You make them by jumping in rain puddles, building forts and throwing flour around while you’re trying to make a cake that’s way out of your league. I’ve really tried…

Home Tour

We’ve been in our house for almost five years, and we are still refining and making this place a home. Our style has been refined a lot over the course of our marriage, but the most important thing to us is that we incorporate pieces we love or that have meaning to us. We wanted to make sure that it was about more than trends, and that it really expressed our personalities. It was more important for us to have people walk in and feel at home. Overall, I am really afraid of color, so we have a lot of neutrals…

Hairpin Leg Kitchen Table DIY

We wanted a kitchen table that was simple, neutral and could take a beating from us and the kids, but still develop some character over the years. It’s 6 feet long x 3 feet wide, hard maple wood top with iron hairpin legs. I built the top and we purchased 4 hairpin legs. We left knots throughout the wood because we love the character it gives. COST $ * *Doesn’t include chairs (+$375) COST BREAKDOWN Hard Maple Wood = ~$175 (based on the lumberyard)Iron Hairpin Legs (Satin Nickel) = $121 (Four legs @ $26 a piece + shipping)Bistro Chairs (Copper) = ~$375 (6 chairs)…

Backyard Bliss

Now that the temps are warming up and the sun is setting later, Ian and I decided we wanted to spruce up our patio below the deck. Although we love the view of the sunset from the top of our deck, its full sun and pretty open. We thought having something below would be a little cozier and we could create a shaded place to eat a meal together. Cove also loves being outside, so this has been our little getaway when he gets fussy too. With the help of At Home, and a few things we had around the house, we worked…

Office Nook

Since I am going to be working some from home, I knew that I needed a creative space where I would be motivated and focused. I also really wanted to enjoy and feel comfortable in my work space. Not wanting to spend a lot on the little space, I threw it all together on a major budget. The pink rug was my biggest splurge. With all the boys around the house, I needed things to be a bit more feminine compared all the blues and neutrals we have everywhere. The desk was Ian's old desk that I got as a 'hand-me-down'…

Christmas Tree Traditions | 38 Week Update

It is my favorite time of the year. The weeks leading up to Christmas! Thanksgiving, hot cocoa, fires and the smell of pine, Christmas parties, yummy holiday desserts, all the decorating… the list could go on forever. For the past three years that Ian and I have been married, we have always had faux trees. A LOT of fake trees. Four to be exact. Our house would turn into a snow globe of glitter, ornaments and garland. This year, with a little one on the way, we decided to scale it back and simplify. At first, I was really disappointed,…

Cove’s Nursery Reveal

Decorating Cove’s nursery was so much fun for us. We knew that we wanted a space that was full of the things that we love with a west coast modern feel. I love white walls and bright spaces, so keeping things simple and minimalistic was also really important. Overall, we are very happy with how it turned out, and I can’t wait to add a little boy and his personality to it as he grows!

Dinner Party | Ian’s 26th Birthday

This Christmas, instead of throwing a Christmas party, we decided to throw a dinner party to celebrate Ian’s birthday. I loved spoiling him and making all of his favorite dishes. Since it is pretty chilly outside here in Georgia, we had to morph the inside of our house to a gigantic dining room. It was interesting to say the least… Our menu consisted of mixed green salad, roasted brussel sprouts, creamy mac and cheese, roasted rosemary garlic potatoes and chicken piccata. We also did an appetizer bar in the dining room. For favors, we decided we wanted to send everyone home…

Christmas Eve Vibes

Today is Christmas Eve! I slept in past 8:00. The house is clean. My bed is made. That itself is a Christmas miracle. We are getting ready for all the Christmas festivities tonight and tomorrow. If you remember from our last Christmas post, I promised to share some photos of my colorful tree. Well, here it is! I made the garland from pom pom puffs and twine and then added some from felt ornaments with a mixture of balls. We ended up putting it in our bedroom since its more eclectic and we LOVE the smell of fresh trees.   …

Christmas Cheer

So…it’s been a while… And although I should say I am sorry. I can’t. I have been soaking up life. Working. Sick. And spending time with the ones that mean most. But I am back:) I thought I would share a little bit of the Christmas cheer going on in our house. I skipped out on the red and green this year and decided to go with more neutral tones. We also bought a live mini-tree that I will share with you soon. I decided to throw all the color on that tree, and it might be my favorite! I’ve…

A Place to Dream

Last fall, we asked our friends to build us a bed similar to the beautiful one they built for their own room. This past weekend, we finally moved it in to our master bedroom. I couldn’t be more in love. It turned out so much better than I had even imagined. Since we were getting a new bed, we decided to upgrade from our queen to a king mattress. Although the cuddling was good for some time in our queen, I don’t think I could ever go back. Here are a few pictures of the bed after we moved it…

Sprucing Up For Easter

Easter is one of the best times of the year! Winter starts to fade away, your plants start to bloom, and there are bunnies and lambs in every department store. It brings me so much joy. I don’t decorate too much, but I do love to spruce up the house with some springy accents.   I hope you all have a wonderful week!

Merry & Bright – The perfect holiday party booth

Every year since we have been married, Ian and I have enjoyed hosting a small Christmas party at our house. We usually require for everyone to dress up some how and this year we thought we would bring back the Tacky Christmas Sweaters. Since we don’t do a white elephant or ornament exchange we create a small area upstairs to do a photo booth. In the two years we’ve done it, it has not failed to bring lots of laughs and holiday cheer out of everyone. This year. We took two hideously awesome green chairs from the Goodwill as our…

A Very Merry Christmas

Christmas is my favorite time of the year. Between all the parties, family, and cheer I also get to transform my home into miniature winter wonderland. When we started our family two years ago, I was really excited about decorating for Christmas. But when I actually started putting the decorations up, I realized it was more than just making your home look beautiful. It was about the memories and traditions that come along with it. I love to see how other people transform their home through the holidays. Each ornament or decoration has a special meaning or memory behind it.…
