Print of Your Heart

About three years ago, Ian and I decided not to purchase each other Christmas presents. I say that, but usually every time we say we’re not going to get each other presents, Ian still is so sweet and picks me up something beautiful or makes something beyond what I could have ever wanted. That year, in true Ian fashion, he gave me a Christmas present about a week before Christmas. He made wooden frames and burned things he loved about me on the the bottom of each one. He then had square prints from Social Print Studio printed with some of his favorite memories with me. I mean… wow. I love that he’s always been so intentional and personal with his gifts. I guess you could say my love of SPS started then. I loved the quality of the prints and how well made they are. Plus, their company has the BEST customer service and sweetest employees. We’ve ordered from them quite a bit over the years and we usually like to pick up some extra new prints whenever we take…

Capture Your Heart | Parabo Press + Free Square Prints for Everyone

Ian is usually a pretty easy guy to buy for. He has a wishlist he adds things to every time he sees something he likes. Every now and then, I love to surprise him with something different and more personal. Until Cove gets old enough to pick out his own gifts for us, Ian and I help him a bit. I went for printed photography because Ian loves to take pictures of our family and always says that it’s his version of a journal to keep track of the good and bad days. We may not post them all on the blog, but we capture a lot, even the really hard moments when Cove’s throwing a fit or we’re in our lounge clothes just hanging around the house. I received about 50 square prints for Ian to refill his wood block frames with, a gorgeous glass print from his favorite trip with Cove to California at sunset and a large engineered print of sunset at Aliso Beach for our kitchen to go above the table he’s building me for Mother’s Day.…

Thoughts on Things: Current Favorites and Forgotten Photos

The other day I was scrolling through photos on my phone, and I realized I had never shared these photos with you all. I am still all googly eyed over my boys in their cute matching ties from ZUZU. We took these on Valentine’s Day after church and Cove did not want to sit still, as you can probably tell. I love these pictures of the two of them together. You can see so much similarities in their eyes. Also, what are your thoughts on the nineties trends coming back so quick? I had to admit it brought back nostalgia of grade school when I put my lace cami on over a tee, but I really like it. Plus, it’s so much more practical for me as a mom. I’m loving these slip dresses here and here too. I can’t wait to pair them with some vans and my favorite choker from The Curly Haired Fox for a casual look (When I am I not going for a casual look though? haha). You guys know how much I love my oils. Well, I…

Quality Time | Jord Wood Watches

Mother’s Day is right around the corner, and I am loving our new traditions we’ve started as a family of three. We spend time with both of our mothers and Cove’s grandmothers the day before Mother’s Day and then we take Sunday as a day for our immediate family to spend time together. This past year was my first year celebrating Mother’s day with Cove and Ian really went above and beyond to make the day special for me. I know he is going to do a wonderful job teaching Cove how you love and respect your mother (not just on Mother’s Day, but every day). One of my strongest love languages is quality time, so on Mother’s Day it’s definitely something I cherish the most. I thought I would put together a list of a few creative ways you can give your mom quality time on Mother’s day. Zoo or aquarium date. This is not for every mom, but if your mom is an animal lover this will be right up her alley. Spend time together wandering around and…

Easter Recap

Easter weekend was about one of the most fun holidays we’ve had since Cove was born. He is getting to a really fun stage as he is learning new ideas and concepts. Things were on steroids a little bit considering there were a total of three egg hunts, but we had a great time celebrating with our church and both sides of our family. We also discovered that his love for crackers and dark chocolate runs deeps. There were some hiding in his eggs instead of candy, and he would stop hunting eggs so he could eat could just sit down and eat. It was pretty adorable. We went pretty simple as far as his Easter basket goes. I went back and forth because I really love to spoil him, but I also don’t want holidays to be about getting a bunch of stuff. We got ended up getting practical items like some shorts for summer and chalk and bubbles for playing outside and then one or two toys. As he grows older, I would love to implement some concepts about how…

We’re Live! Shop til’ You Drop

I’ve been itching to share this all with everyone for so long! Today we’ve officially launched The Southern Trunk shop, along with a nice little site upgrade! We’ve been dreaming and working on this space for months, and are so happy to finally share it with everyone. When I was a little kid, instead of playing with Barbies and other toys, I begged my mom for a sketch book. I started designing clothing and outfits. Going into middle school, my parents bought me my first sewing machine so I could make the clothing I had designed. One problem. I failed miserably. I had zero patience and ended up only making a few pillows and a floral skirt. But despite failure back then, I knew that I wanted to use that same creativity and heart for design in a career one day.

All Day Kiss Proof and Thoughts From The Heart

Its not quite warm enough to pull out my shorts yet, but I have pulled out all my spring tops and floral pieces. I figured if my backyard is blooming, it’s acceptable. With the weather being chilly in the mornings but warming up in the day, my favorite trend is to wear a lighter peasant top and throw an oversized cardigan over it for when the temps are lower. I fell in love with this adorable key hole top, which is lightweight and has the perfect colored pattern, paired with these super comfy suede booties from Guilty Soles. Im sure you’re all wondering about the title of this post. Well, do you see that really pretty beige/pink lipstick that I am wearing? It stays on my lips all day, doesn’t come off on my cups, and is totally kiss proof. I wish I would have had it on my wedding day so I didn’t have to carry lipstick around in the bust of my dress and Ian didn’t have to keep wiping his mouth off after every kiss. My beautiful friend…

Pieces with Meaning

Daylight Savings is one of my favorite days of the year. No joke. I don’t even care that we loose an hour of sleep because I am so pumped for a later sunset. One of my favorite things to do every spring / summer day is sit on the back porch and watch the sunset. And if I don’t get to be outside, I open up all the blinds and watch it as I cook and eat dinner. The other day we spent the afternoon in Chattanooga right at golden hour. It was stunning to see the sun set over the water and all the golden light it shed over the art district. With spring approaching, I decided to pull together a lighter look with some white jeans. This chambray top has some of the cutest details and is super flowy so you don’t have to worry about what you eat for dinner. WIN! My necklace was made by my girl Dee at Dee Ruel. You may remember one of her pieces from this look last summer. She is a fabulous…

Nashville and Birthday Musings

This past weekend I turned 26 and got to spend the weekend roaming around Nashville with my love to celebrate my birthday and our anniversary. I have to say, I felt super spoiled and loved on by so many. I really appreciate all your kind words, messages and thoughts. This year has probably been one of the first birthday’s I haven’t been super thrilled about turning another year older. I wanted to be 25 forever. (cue all the laughs) Now that I have gradually started accepting the fact I am in my late twenties, I am embracing more and more that these years will be some of the best of my life. We visited Nashville about three years ago and fell in love with it. Since it had been a while, and we didn’t want to drive too far for our getaway, we decided to visit again and see all the new things the city had as well as a few things we weren’t able to see last time. Ian booked us a suite at the Hutton and it was divine. The…

Let’s Be Honest Mamas

Before I had a baby, I was really unsure of whether I would stay home with him / her or not. I’m a big advocate for encouraging mothers, no matter what they decide to do, because being a mama is already hard enough without all the unnecessary guilt others like to impose. We all have different circumstances, challenges and struggles. When we had Cove, I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to decide for myself whether I wanted to stay at home or not, and after returning from maternity leave (to the most amazing job, which I loved), I felt like God had another plan for my life. There was a little guy at home who I wanted to spend every second with and a husband who was all in with their startup. More than my boys needing me, I needed them. I was so excited when the beautiful Hannah Rennee asked me to be a part of the “Let’s Be Honest Mama’s” interview group to share some insight into my life as a stay at home mom. Motherhood itself…

A Little Book Goes A Long Way

In my mind, every year is a year for the books. Whether it is the best year of our lives or we’ve been to hell and back, each year is one of growing, shaping and celebration. After all, we aren’t promised tomorrow. Every day we have here counts. With that in mind, Ian and I have always done yearly photo books. We love to take pictures. We are so grateful we enjoy documenting things all the time because it is so great to look back and remember seasons and specific memories we shared with each other. In the past it has taken us days to sort through and edit photo books just the way we want them, but I was so excited when Shutterfly reached out to us to try their new Make My Book Service. For an additional $9.99, Shutterfly will edit and compile your book for you. I chose the theme and color scheme I wanted and uploaded all my pics (I think there were over 400). There team then sifts through all the images and places them perfectly…

The Stephens Part IV

If you have been with us for a whille, you may have seen the Stephens on our blog. We have loved growing with their family over the years. Brent is the lead pastor of our church, Four Points Church. Last year, we took their family photos on our church land with huge bulldozers and trucks after they broke ground. This year, as a testament to God’s faithfulness, we took their photos in front of the completed building.

The Bateman Family

I love getting to photograph families more than once, so it was such a treat to be able to capture the Bateman family for the second time this year. You may remember their sweet little newborn Mackenzie. She’s so beautiful with such a vibrant and happy personality now. And you can see why. Her parents are a stunning couple with beauty inside and out. I hope you enjoy their images!

Why We Chose To Travel With Our Baby

After we left San Diego, we spent a day driving up the coast to Malibu. Traffic was a beast, and when you’ve got a baby crying in the backseat, it can make things feel ten times worse. After an hour or two, we made it to El Matador Beach. I fell in love with this place when we went to Malibu two years ago, so I knew it would lift everyone’s spirits that day. It was overcast, but the sun started peaking through the clouds when we got there, which made it even more magical. Cove was so happy and kept waving at the ocean. As we walked around it started to sprinkle, but instead of running to our car, we just decided to dance in the rain (literally). It was such a fun memory and it helped put the traffic / travel trauma behind us. Afterwards, we had dinner at Malibu Farm, which was right on the pier and had such a beautiful atmosphere. It was a perfect way to end the day. Some days traveling with a baby can…

Framing Gold | Framebridge

I think if I could, I would have my whole home be one giant gallery wall full of all the photos, posters and art we love. EVERYWHERE. But in all seriousness, I do love to grace our home with those golden memories that you want to remember forever. When I came across Framebridge, I was so impressed with the company and all of it’s services. You can frame your Instagram photos in a wide array of gorgeous frames, send in/upload your images or posters to be put in frames, or you can have one of their designers pick out a frame for your piece or create a gallery wall for you. It’s genius. It’s beautiful quality without all the headache. I love the new Carson Gold frame we just got with our most recent family photo. We just got back from California and where we took Cove to Crystal Cove State Park for the first time after talking about it for over a year, and the sunset was gorgeous. Our friends snapped this one of us, and I will remember this moment forever. As a…
