Cassandra | Lifestyle Session

One of my favorite things about lifestyle sessions is getting to peek into someone’s life at home. Capturing those intimate moments that are part of their daily routine are important memories and seasons that people cherish forever. Spending time in Cassandra’s home with her was such a relaxing and fun experience. Sharing our favorite music, books and insane love for breakfast was really great. I hope you enjoy taking a quick look into what home looks like for her.

Pumpkin Picking and 12 Fall Family Traditions

It’s the best time of year again, and we celebrated the first weekend in October by doing a little pumpkin picking with our friends. If you remember last year, Cove was still in my belly when we went pumpkin picking. I have to say, it was so much more fun this year with him on the outside. If you look back at the picture of the three of us, you can see how big Styles and Sawyer have grown in just a year. It was so sweet to see the boys hitting pumpkins and picking up little mini pumpkins together, and having them be wheeled around in the little red wagon. As fall and winter are quickly approaching I have been thinking so much about family traditions and which ones we want to start together with Cove. Here is a list of activities that you can do together as a family to celebrate the season: Go to a corn maze and go on a hayride. Apple Picking. Plant your spring bulbs as a family. Carve a pumpkin. Make homemade apple cider, applesauce…

Our Everyday | Contentment in the Mondays and Tuesdays

Before having Cove, I was literally ALWAYS on the go. I remember being so nervous about how life would slow down after he arrived (honest confession). But since the day he was born, I have loved having time at home just the three of us. Don’t get me wrong, my favorite hobby is adventure and travel, but family time at home is where some of our best memories are made. Every day is different, but we always end up together as a family reading books, playing games and eating together. Even if we only get to do one of those, we really make an effort to have family time together every single day, without distractions or technology involved. These are the moments that give me energy, drive and focus. They are the moments I want to write down in a book and keep forever. Below are some pictures from a slow morning together. Usually on the weekends, Cove and Ian bring me breakfast in bed. After Cove goes down for his morning nap, Ian and I will drink coffee together and talk…

Franklin, TN | Travel Guide

It’s really hard to put into words how much we loved this city right outside of Nashville. I had a pretty good idea that Ian and I would enjoy our stay, but we didn’t realize just how much we would fall in love with the town and people. We headed up through the beautiful mountains of Tennessee on a Thursday morning, on the first day of fall. It was a perfect way to kick off the season. Tennessee’s rolling hills are unlike any other state. When we made it to our B&B, the Tin Roof Cottage, we instantly felt at home. Every single detail of this place was thought out and had a creative touch. Less than a mile down the road was the quaint town of Leiper’s Fork. We walked from our cottage through the downtown area full of antique and boutique shops. Each of the businesses is required to have a place for the community to sit and relax, so outside of every shop or restaurant you will see fire-pits, benches, and tables with locals gathered around chatting and…

Kerr Family

I love this family so much. Sherry has such a special place in my heart and has been with me through so many seasons. I was so excited to capture their family. You may also notice the Orphan Aid Liberia canvas Sherry and Noelle are holding in some of the pictures. It’s for their trip to Liberia this Christmas to help in the orphanages. To hear more about the group’s mission you can check out their website here. Hope you enjoy their photos!

San Diego Guys Trip

Some of my favorite trips are the last minute, spontaneous ones because we have to buckle down and get all the logistics planned quickly, then we’re off while still on the high / excitement of planning the trip. Now I love planned trips too (we typically have two trips a year that are planned months out), but there’s just something about jumping on a plane a few days later and throwing yourself into the flow of whatever happens, happens. It was just Jimmy and I for this trip though. You’ve seen him, Jen and their little guy on this blog a lot. Obviously their our best friends and we’re very close with them, so when Jimmy called me a week and a half ago and said he was flying to San Diego for 4 days on business and to pack my bags, I vetted it quickly with Victoria and 3 days later, we landed in the beautiful city of San Diego in my favorite state, California. We worked. We played. We drove around for hours in a Jeep Wrangler with…

5 Tips When Booking a Photographer

Something I never really understood until I became a photographer was the effort and process it takes to be a photographer. On the outside, it’s easy right? “Smile!” [click] [click] done. With that, there’s not much guidance out there on how to effectively and enjoyably work with clients and photographers. We put together some quick tips, based on our experiences as photographers, to help shed some light on this subject and hopefully make your next photo session an experience you’ll always treasure, along with the images.

Thoughts on Things | Netflix, Instagram Stories and Being Lost

1. So I know we are way behind, but we just recently finished the BBC Sherlock series with Benedict Cumberbatch (which I am obsessed with). After that, we didn’t really want to start a show, so we just started going through 90’s movies. I have to be honest, I kind of loved it. 10 Things I Hate About You, She’s All That, Remember the Titans… you get the picture. Does anyone else feel so much nostalgia when watching old movies like that? The best part is watching with them Ian because it’s almost like I am seeing them for the first time again. Are you watching anything on Netflix right now? If we were to start a show, what would you suggest? We got rid of cable a few years ago, and don’t really watch TV unless it’s on Netflix, so I am always open to suggestions :).

Return Ticket

“We take photos as a return ticket to a moment otherwise gone.” Our family takes a lot of pictures. Not because we like seeing ourselves plastered all over the place, but because pictures are memories for me. I have never really journaled until more recently, and in a lot of ways, I think it was because photos were a journal for me. I could look at a photo and tell you exactly how I was feeling or what I was going through or experiencing at that exact moment. I find myself frequently going through old photos, reminiscing about those memories we made together as a family – good ones and even bad ones.

Trunk Show | Sun Jam Studio + Giveaway

If you read our blog, you have already met and know my love for Jen Allen. You’ve seen them in California, Styles’ Newborn Shoot, Nashville & The Allens . She is one of the truest and kindest people I have ever met and so much fun. We met 6 years ago on the Fourth of July. Our husbands were friends and so we kind of went on a blind double date with them. The rest is history. Three trips, three babies and a lifetime of memories between the four of us. She recently started Sun Jam Studio, which I immediately fell in love with and had to share with you all. We will be hosting a giveaway for the next three days, so make sure you check out our Instagrams @govictoria and @mrsjenallen to win one of her amazing wall-hangings.

Hudson and Emma | Twins

I could not share these images without sharing a little background on these beautiful babies. I cannot tell this story without crying. I met Abbi and Caleb in my freshman English class in college. They were this adorable high school sweetheart couple who always had smiles on their faces. Fast forward six years later… They got married and Caleb was finishing law school at UGA. I had just lost our first baby, and decided to share publicly what I was going through on The Southern Trunk. I had no idea how God would use my situation to bring so many beautiful ladies into my circle, but I am so grateful He did. Abbi sent me an email after reading my blog, and we both started praying for each other and the similar journeys we were on. Both of us longed for motherhood. After months of praying, I received a text from Abbi telling me that her and Caleb had the opportunity to adopt two beautiful twin babies and that they were going to be parents. Praise God! Not only did…

Charleston | Isle of Palms | Spring Vacation

I was so excited to escape for a little getaway with our family. I was even more excited to take Cove to the beach for the first time. If you didn’t already know, our family loves the beach. We were really hoping Cove would too, and he did! He loved watching the waves and feeling the sand between his toes. It was such a relaxing time for us, and was much needed alone time. There is something so rejuvenating about being near the water. For me, its the sense of how vast and big it is. It reminds you that your problems are so small compared to the greatness of God and His will for our lives. It also is a reminder to me of faith, of Peter walking on water, and how sometimes we can get caught up in the waves of life instead of really focusing on God and his promises. It’s breathtaking to think about. We spent our days walking along the beach and our evenings in downtown Charleston walking around. Wild Dunes was one of locations…

Portraits | Brianna Chantel

I’ve always said she was the epitome of a real life disney princess from her crystal pure voice to being the fairest of them all. Animals literally flock to her like a scene in Cinderella. I was so excited when she let Ian and I snap some pictures of her for her new website. She is an incredible performing artist who speaks Italian fluently. I am so proud (if you can’t already tell) to call her my sister and so excited to see the huge impact she’ll have on the world using her talents.
