Nashville and Birthday Musings

This past weekend I turned 26 and got to spend the weekend roaming around Nashville with my love to celebrate my birthday and our anniversary. I have to say, I felt super spoiled and loved on by so many. I really appreciate all your kind words, messages and thoughts. This year has probably been one of the first birthday’s I haven’t been super thrilled about turning another year older. I wanted to be 25 forever. (cue all the laughs) Now that I have gradually started accepting the fact I am in my late twenties, I am embracing more and more that these years will be some of the best of my life. We visited Nashville about three years ago and fell in love with it. Since it had been a while, and we didn’t want to drive too far for our getaway, we decided to visit again and see all the new things the city had as well as a few things we weren’t able to see last time. Ian booked us a suite at the Hutton and it was divine. The…

Cove’s First Birthday | Modern Geo Jungle Party

When it came time for us to start thinking about a theme for Cove’s first birthday, I knew I wanted it to be from something we experienced together as a family during his first year of life. We were able to take Cove to both the Atlanta Zoo and the San Diego Zoo this year and he loved it. Since we had such great memories there together as a family, I decided to do a modern jungle theme. We have always used #gocove since before he was born, so we played on that to theme the party GO COVE, GO WILD. We tied together modern and geometric patterns with African Mudcloth to build out the branding and design. I designed the logo and invites, and then had them printed. We also crafted handmade wooden geometric photo frames to hold the Polaroid’s that we had people take at the party as party favors. Then we added jungle greenery and tiny zoo animals to pull it all together.

Thoughts on Things | The Beginning of 2015

We have been working on some home renovations the past few weeks, which means our house is not in a “home-y” state and doesn’t feel all that welcoming. I joke with Ian that my clothes are spread out between three different rooms so it takes me three times as long to get ready now ;). But, amidst all the craziness, I wanted to share my current random assortment of thoughts. Isaiah 43 and 26 have been my anchor lately. Ian and I have dealt with some pretty intense pain the past two months, and I honestly don’t know how I would get by if I didn’t have hope in who God is. Regardless of how difficult any situation is for me, He knows best and has His hand on my life. It’s easy for me to get caught up in comparison of where my life is in contrast with others, or why I am experiencing pain but they are receiving blessings. It’s also easy to feel sorry for myself. But I have to remember that we are graced for our particular race. God often has…

Bohemian Birthday Bash

Three of our close friends had birthdays recently. Two of them were turning a quarter of a century and the other 26, so we decided to celebrate them all together with a big birthday bash. The weather has been incredible lately, so we decided to have the party in our backyard with plenty of room for outdoor games. We wanted it to be low-key, but still have an eclectic feel. I asked Ian to build a large farmhouse table that would be low to the ground, so that we could all sit on the grass around it. He built the top out of old weathered wood we already had and then we used cinderblocks for the bases. We then scattered random blankets, pillows and fabric around to give it that eclectic style. We also stacked wood pallets to make smaller tables. Since everything was outdoors and at night, we wanted to make sure there was plenty of soft lighting. Ian put 8′ stakes in the ground and attached strands of lights, which you can find here, to the tops around nails he hammered…
