Your Last Holiday To-Do List | Present Over Perfect

I probably should have posted this a couple weeks earlier, but here it is now! This year, I have talked a lot about a simpler Christmas. More minimal decorations. Fewer to-dos. Which I guess is why the title of this is a bit ironic. But with it being the week before Christmas, I thought I’d share with you a few to-dos that will make your life easier, less hectic and more meaningful. Stop buying presents and be present. Don’t worry about that last minute person who got you a gift and don’t worry about the stockings being packed to the brim.…

Easy, Yet Delicious Make Ahead Christmas Morning Breakfast

*This post is sponsored by ALDI. All opinions are my own. I am not quite sure why, but breakfast is so important to us. I have always been a HUGE fan of breakfast foods. Bagels, bacon, eggs, French toast… all of it. Ian and I both have fond memories of waking up on Saturdays to our parents and especially our dads making breakfast and eating together as a family. Before we even had kids, we talked about how fun it was going to be making pancakes and sitting and watching our little ones chow down on the bar stools. Fast…

Winter White

Last week, Georgia experienced Snow Storm Benji out of nowhere. What was supposed to be a light dusting ended up being a twelve inches of snow with thousands of power outages? That morning, I had gone to take my glucose test and in the middle of my appointment, I heard people talking about how it was starting to stick and they were thinking about closing the office early. I made it home just in time and later that day Ian, was able to wrap up and enjoy the snow with us. Ian built a snowman taller than him, and we…

Oh Christmas Tree! & Some Thoughts On Motherhood

Ever since I was pregnant with Cove, we made it a little family tradition to go walk around and look at the Christmas trees. We usually go the weekend right after Thanksgiving and sip on Hot Chocolate or Cider and buy some fresh garland or a wreath to make the house smell nice. It’s so fun to see how each year our family has grown and how blessed we are. Cove has loved running around and hiding in the trees the past two years, and it’s surreal to think we will have another little boy in the mix the next…

Do They Have Gingerbread House Insurance?

When I was little, we celebrated a lot of holidays away from home. Not visiting extended family, but instead, just quality time with my parents and sister, experiencing new places. I loved that my parents did that with us, and it is sort of what led us to have Cracker Barrel on Thanksgiving instead of cooking. A few times over the years, we’ve visited Asheville, North Carolina and would do Christmas Tours of the Biltmore House. One of the things my sister and I loved was in the basement of the house where the kitchen was, there were huge decorated gingerbread…

Christmas Recap | 2016

I can now say that there are few things sweeter than watching your child run with excitement to the tree filled with gifts, and then sitting on your lap as he opens each one with a sweet glimmer in his eyes. I feel like each year is going to get more excited as he learns what Christmas is all about. I think the best part for me was when he first saw all of his gifts, he went to his books first, grabbed one and brought it to us to read. We’re raising a book worm and I am totally okay…

Thoughts on Things | Being Present, Pikes and Magnolia Story

We recently took Cove to Pikes to look at some of the garland and wreaths and he went crazy. If I would have known that Pikes would result in that much joy, we would have gone everyday last week. He kept finding branches and made friends with a few of the employees. No joke, we probably stayed there for over half an hour just letting him walk around and giggle. Just a little over a year ago we were waiting on his arrival and picking up our tree. You may remember seeing the pictures of me waddling around here. I recently…

Gingerbread Baking

After a busy Saturday this past weekend, we put on our pajamas and decided to bake and decorate some gingerbread men together. Foodstirs had sent me this amazing kit with all organic and non GMO mixes. This helped me not feel quiet as guilty about indulging in all the deliciousness. Cove was definitely in the Christmas spirit. He was even pulling out the baking pans and giggled every time we turned on the KitchenAid Mixer. I have never been a phenomenal baker. I like to cook because you can experiment and don’t always have to be precise. But baking is a whole…

Thoughts on Things | Christmas trees, Traditions and My Favorite Recipes Currently

Although last year was one of the best Christmases because we became a family of three, it also felt like we skipped over everything due to our newborn fatigue and the fact it was almost 80 degrees here. Now that we have a little boy walking around, I am so excited for this year’s festivities. Everything seems more magical when you are experiencing it for the first time with someone. Cove now points at the tree when we ask him where the ‘Christmas’ tree is, and whispers when we get close to the lights like he is experiencing something magical. It…

If you are still shopping for Christmas gifts, I highly recommend shopping from these beautiful businesses and getting the ones in your life gifts that are made with a lot of love and care. I have a huge stamp of approval on all these items and have most of them in my own home.

Christmas Tree Traditions | 38 Week Update

It is my favorite time of the year. The weeks leading up to Christmas! Thanksgiving, hot cocoa, fires and the smell of pine, Christmas parties, yummy holiday desserts, all the decorating… the list could go on forever. For the past three years that Ian and I have been married, we have always had faux trees. A LOT of fake trees. Four to be exact. Our house would turn into a snow globe of glitter, ornaments and garland. This year, with a little one on the way, we decided to scale it back and simplify. At first, I was really disappointed,…

Dinner Party | Ian’s 26th Birthday

This Christmas, instead of throwing a Christmas party, we decided to throw a dinner party to celebrate Ian’s birthday. I loved spoiling him and making all of his favorite dishes. Since it is pretty chilly outside here in Georgia, we had to morph the inside of our house to a gigantic dining room. It was interesting to say the least… Our menu consisted of mixed green salad, roasted brussel sprouts, creamy mac and cheese, roasted rosemary garlic potatoes and chicken piccata. We also did an appetizer bar in the dining room. For favors, we decided we wanted to send everyone home…

Merry Christmas!

So much celebration in remembering what Christ did for us in becoming flesh to give us life. I can’t help but sing my favorite Christmas carol. O Come All Ye Faithful Joyful and triumphant, O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem. Come and behold Him, Born the King of Angels; O come, let us adore Him, O come, let us adore Him, O come, let us adore Him, Christ the Lord. All Hail! Lord, we greet Thee, Born this happy morning, O Jesus! for evermore be Thy name adored. Word of the Father, now in flesh appearing; O come,…

Christmas Eve Vibes

Today is Christmas Eve! I slept in past 8:00. The house is clean. My bed is made. That itself is a Christmas miracle. We are getting ready for all the Christmas festivities tonight and tomorrow. If you remember from our last Christmas post, I promised to share some photos of my colorful tree. Well, here it is! I made the garland from pom pom puffs and twine and then added some from felt ornaments with a mixture of balls. We ended up putting it in our bedroom since its more eclectic and we LOVE the smell of fresh trees.   …
