I have always loved a good thrift store run. My momma taught me at a young age that a bargain/discount is never a bad thing, but a smart decision. It’s like finding gold. When shopping at the Goodwill, you don’t always find treasure, but then some days you hit the jackpot at come out with $20 worth of goodies (just like Macklemore). When I was working at my old office, we had a Goodwill next door, and I would always tell Ian I had to pay the story a visit to let the traffic die down, hah. In the end, it paid off. I found some great stuff for our house and both of our closets. Bargain and secondhand shopping is about more than just a good deal though. It’s good for our environment and culture to shop secondhand and reuse what we can instead of hoarding a cluttered waste. This past year, I have really tried to refine my closet into only pieces that I wear consistently and that reflect who I am. Clothing is a way we express ourselves and our lifestyle.…
I really feel like you can never have enough sweatpants or sweatshirts. If you saw my closet you would probably gasp at the amount of loungewear I have, but I don’t care. It’s what I’m most comfortable in. I found this blush sweatshirt the other day, and it brought me back to Saved by the Bell and Boy Meets World days. I feel like Kelly Kapowski might have owned it at one point. I paired it with some jeans and my new favorite sneakers from Guilty Soles. When I found out fringe high top sneakers existed, I knew they were meant to be in my closet. I LOVE these shoes. The other day we were doing our Chick-fil-A run, and I didn’t even realize I had dressed Cove in a sweatsuit too, haha. We were like a sweatsuit family from the 80’s. —
One of my favorite things about lifestyle sessions is getting to peek into someone’s life at home. Capturing those intimate moments that are part of their daily routine are important memories and seasons that people cherish forever. Spending time in Cassandra’s home with her was such a relaxing and fun experience. Sharing our favorite music, books and insane love for breakfast was really great. I hope you enjoy taking a quick look into what home looks like for her.
Before having Cove, I was literally ALWAYS on the go. I remember being so nervous about how life would slow down after he arrived (honest confession). But since the day he was born, I have loved having time at home just the three of us. Don’t get me wrong, my favorite hobby is adventure and travel, but family time at home is where some of our best memories are made. Every day is different, but we always end up together as a family reading books, playing games and eating together. Even if we only get to do one of those, we really make an effort to have family time together every single day, without distractions or technology involved. These are the moments that give me energy, drive and focus. They are the moments I want to write down in a book and keep forever. Below are some pictures from a slow morning together. Usually on the weekends, Cove and Ian bring me breakfast in bed. After Cove goes down for his morning nap, Ian and I will drink coffee together and talk…
If you read our blog, you have already met and know my love for Jen Allen. You’ve seen them in California, Styles’ Newborn Shoot, Nashville & The Allens . She is one of the truest and kindest people I have ever met and so much fun. We met 6 years ago on the Fourth of July. Our husbands were friends and so we kind of went on a blind double date with them. The rest is history. Three trips, three babies and a lifetime of memories between the four of us. She recently started Sun Jam Studio, which I immediately fell in love with and had to share with you all. We will be hosting a giveaway for the next three days, so make sure you check out our Instagrams @govictoria and @mrsjenallen to win one of her amazing wall-hangings.
I can hardly believe that Cove is already two months old. The past nine weeks have flown by. He has got some serious smiles going on and has been so much fun. I am sure that every stage just gets sweeter and sweeter. Since winter can make us a little stir crazy, we take every semi-warm day as an opportunity to take walks and have coffee dates. Cove absolutely loves walks and even gets a little upset when we sit still for too long.
We are barely a month into 2016 and we’ve already experienced a snow day, and this time it was extra special. It was Cove’s first snow day! I can’t say he was too impressed. Every time a snowflake hit his face he would cry, but he was very warm and comfortable in his snow bear outfit once we got inside. I can’t say I blame him though, I would rather be at the beach in 70 degree weather and sun any day. Whether he liked it or not, it is so much fun to experience it with him for the first time. It makes me excited to experience all the “first’s” with him. Even though the snow was pretty much melted by lunch time, Ian and I soaked up time together being couch potatoes and snuggling with our little bear.
Last year, Ian surprised me with the most beautiful little wooden frames to hold some of our photographs. He had the most beautiful images printed from Social Print Studio. It was so much fun to see what images he had picked out for me to showcase around our home and my little cube at work. This year, I decided to print a few for my friends to give as gifts. I thought it would be fun to surprise them the same way Ian did by picking out the images that I thought they would love. It was so much fun to go through their social media accounts and select photos that captured the past few years. While its great to have a cloud or hard drive to store your images on, there is just something about hard copies that bring all the feels.
I cannot believe my baby boy is one month old. Was it not just yesterday that I was bringing this little guy home from the hospital? So much has changed in four short weeks. We finally got the hang of eating. He is sleeping 4-6 hours at night, which is so huge for us! And during the day he is so alert and loves playing on his safari mat. One of my favorite things that he does is wrap his tiny little hands around my fingers and squeeze when he’s being sweet. He did it the moment I held him for the first time, and I imagine that its him telling me he loves me now. It’s been so fun to watch him focus in on things and look up at you with those sweet little heart eyes. It has been a life changing month, but I am so incredibly grateful to be called his mother.
It’s that time of year where our door post is lined with photos of our loved ones. Christmas Card Season! My favorite. I am hoping ours actually make it to mailboxes before Christmas this year. We had the most perfect distraction arrive right in the middle of the holidays. Since I am all curled up with the sweetest little babe, I will make this short and sweet:) Here are a few photos from the Allen’s Christmas card shoot!
Who knew there could be so much love and how much truth the Psalms ring – Psalms 127:3-5 Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth. Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate. Our little guy is one week old and my heart is just so full. I have fallen more in love with my husband than I thought humanly possible. He has taken such good care of me and Cove. Everything from helping me push and encouraging me through labor and delivery to holding and praying for me as I cry and adjust to being a mother. One of my favorite things has been praying together as a family of three. Ian and I have prayed together every night since we were engaged, and now we get to pray holding our little one every single night. It is still surreal. I can’t say that this week has been easy.…
When Megan asked us to take their family’s holiday photos at their home, I was so excited. They had just recently moved in their beautiful new house and we were so looking forward to capturing images there. Britton (who might I say is the cutest little prince charming you’ve ever seen) will be a year old this January. He loved the camera and was so much fun to follow around. Jordan and Megan are such a beautiful couple and you can see how much they love their little guy!
You can’t quite get more photogenic than this family! They could have all walked out of some ad in a magazine. We were so honored to take their photos and the weather was absolutely perfect for this Red Top Mountain shoot. As you can see from the photos, we all had a blast playing around and capturing images.
We were so thrilled to be invited to the Lawrence home. We got to spend the morning photographing ‘real life’ for them. One of my favorite things about lifestyle shoots is the memories of what life was like at that time. It is something they can look back at and remember how they spent their days. The Lawrence family was full of so much joy which was an inspiring thing to capture.
