Thoughts on Things | New Recipes, Jumpsuits & Minimal Decorating + Advent Download (In case you started a day late)

So now that the weather is actually getting cooler here in the south, I have been pulling out my warmer recipes. I just purchased an instant pot from the Cyber Monday deals, and have loved getting to put it to good use. I really wanted something I could put meals together with pretty quickly because I knew with a new baby coming early next year, there just wouldn’t be a lot of time each day to cook some of the things I cook now. The first meal I made was chicken and rice (like the fresh kind, not the kind…

Bright & Frost Bite

When we started planning to take a trip to New York in the fall, we knew it would be chilly, but not as chilly as it turned out to be. Averages were in the 50’s and the Friday after we got there ended up being a high of 32 degrees… Most of the day with the wind, it felt like it was in the 20’s. Although we were bitter cold, we made the most of the day, shielding the weather in cozy cafes and museums. We took Uber here and there and the subway most of the time. I will…

Real Life Moments – How We Capture Them and What We Keep for Ourselves

“Instagram has always been a creative outlet for me, and I have personally chosen not to share much of the every day lives of our children for their sake. However, as I continue to share style and design images, remember that this space for me is only meant to inspire an idea. Encourage, and uplift. The best moments of my life are actually the insignificant ones… Usually with a baby or two at my ankles while I’m sipping a coffee. I just choose to keep them just for me most of the time. So this is just a reminder for…

Thoughts on Things: Current Favorite Fall Meals, Balance in Decorating and Neutral Layers

Current Favorite Fall Meals Now that Ian has completed Whole30 and I am eating regular food besides bread, I have loved putting together some fall meals for our family. A few of you have mentioned on Instagram you like seeing what we are eating and some of the recipes we come up with, so I thought I would start sharing some of those with you. I will share our original recipes in separate posts so they are easier to find and the ones I’ve found elsewhere in a little list here and there. For now, here are the ones we have…

Can we have a pumpkin patch in our backyard?

One of my favorite traditions every year is to go to the pumpkin patch. We started doing it before we had children, and now it’s even more fun watching Cove want every kind of pumpkin they have! You can see years past here and here. This past weekend we found a new pumpkin patch to visit that had farm animals, hay rides, bounce houses, ice cream / snacks, and lots of pumpkins varieties. I love the Fairytale and Casperia pumpkin ones, so it was just perfect. Cove had so much fun this year and wanted to take all the pumpkins…

A Moment Captured For A Lifetime

Photography is something our family holds very close. It’s something we enjoy doing together and most of all, it captures moments and memories that we never want to forget. Over the past six years, we’ve worked on refining our style and implementing some of those captures into our home. You guys may remember I shared last year about our special beach trip with Cove – you can read it…

How To Throw A Look Together When You’re Running Late | Fifteen Minutes to Be Exact

I wouldn’t say I am a “late” or “lazy” person, but having a kid has basically cut my “getting ready” time in half most days. Sometimes it feels like there is literally no time. Have you ever seen that meme “My kids look like baby gap models, but I look like a Walking Dead extra”? Yeah, I totally get that. Over the past year, I’ve gotten better at learning to throw together looks and trying to stay polished even if that means I only got to see my self in the mirror for under five minutes. So I thought I’d…

Eclipse

Besides the 90’s, this outfit reminds me of the eclipse for some reason so I saved it for today. This silk dress from Two Feathers is so easy to style. I dressed it down here with a t-shirt and my old skool vans, but I plan on wearing it with some strappy heels and a leather or suede moto jacket for date night. As you can probably tell, I am a huge fan of 90’s trends right now. We are currently re-watching Friends at night while we work out and I have noticed so many trends that have circled back…

Palms to Pines | Tips on Long Car Rides with Toddlers

We’ve had our fair share of long car rides this year. From traveling across half of Canada to our quick trip to the beach. We’ve learned a few tips on surviving the long trek of pavement with as few breakdowns as possible.   Snacks – The more the better. I shared with you guys two days ago about healthy snacking on the go. Snacks are a life saver and keep everyone happy and full. I usually like to take some regular and dried fruit, healthy protein bars and organic snacks / crackers. I also try to stick with individual snack bags too…

Being Comfortable In Your Own Skin or Shoes

I was the first girl to wear gauchos to school even when the boys made fun of me, I’ve rocked hot pink lipstick and I was never afraid to go introduce myself to someone, but motherhood, that was a completely different story. I felt so much insecurity. I wasn’t sure what I was doing, and then when I did start doing something I had people tell me I wasn’t doing it right, and my kid isn’t even two yet! I’ve come a long way since those first few months of newborn-ness wore off and the hormones subsided, and I’ve grown…

Honey Yellow | What I am packing for the beach

It’s no secret I’ve been obsessed with yellow this summer. Mustard, golden and honey. Especially this honey dress from Thistle & Finn. I love the criss cross details and the boho feel of the layers at the bottom. I wore it on a double date the other night, and it was a perfect day to night dress. I just threw a long crotchet cardigan over it and paired it with some strappy sandals. You probably remember Thistle & Finn from this post here. Their clothing is made well and is perfect for a bohemian look. We’re headed to the beach…

Summer Date Night | Five Summer Date Night Ideas

I know school is about to start back soon here in the south, but summer is still around for a while. We’ve had a lot of rain this summer. It makes for very humid days but incredible sunsets. I’ve always joked with Ian that I am a cheap date. It really doesn’t take a lot to impress me. Just quality time and good food. One of my favorite date nights this summer was when we went to a local seafood restaurant that we both love. They have the best salmon and parmesan truffle fries. We skipped dessert and headed to the…

Chill Frills

Happy Monday, friends! You all know how much I love a good deal, so I wanted to share a little gem I recently discovered. This striped wrap blouse and ruffle top are both under $25! I have been working to step up my top game. I feel like I always gravitate towards comfy tees and graphics (which I still love), but I’m working to create a little bit of diversity in my wardrobe. I received both of the tops above from this shop. I feel in the past some similar shops have gotten a bad rap and as with most stores, there are always…

LBD Summer Edition

Hey, friends! I hope you had an amazing Fourth of July weekend. We kept it pretty chill around here and just watched some fireworks and grilled out. Cove was obsessed with the sparklers and had a meltdown when they were all out burnt out, ha. I’ve never been one to follow “style” rules – white in summer, black in winter. I typically just wear whatever color I want, no matter what time of year, and try to coordinate it appropriately. Because black looks so good when you have a nice tan. I personally think little black dresses are appropriate year…

Maxis, Studded Flats, Layered Jewelry & Splurge or Save Talk

Happy Wednesday, friends! It has been a great week so far… There haven’t been many errands to run, so it’s nice having lazy summer days where we take our time in the morning, go to the pool visit with friends and take long naps. Somehow, we always end up in the back yard with Cove running through the sprinklers and Ian and I eating on the back deck. It’s been kind of perfect, if I am being honest. I posted the above dress on Instagram a while ago, and got a lot of comments on where to find it. You can shop…

Thoughts on Things: Social Media Babies, Hands Free Fashion and Trends I Love

So one of my sweet friends on Instagram shared a post on social media babies and how this will be the first generation to ever grow up with cameras in their face at all time and every single part of their lives being documented on iPhones and often through social media. To be honest, it’s something I’ve given a lot of thought to and Ian and I have talked about before. We have a few friends who don’t share about their children at all on social media, no photos at all, and others who document bare booties and glorious details of real…
